GRITTY GRIOT LLC
Generating Radically Imagined Tomorrows, Today

A griot (/ˈɡrēō/) is a West African storyteller and historian who preserves the oral traditions and wisdom of their people. Griots help communities understand their past and shape their future by connecting cultural heritage with future-focused imagination. This concept of radical imagination challenges the status quo, encouraging individuals to envision and create possibilities beyond what exists, deeply rooted in cultural history and community strength.

GRITTY GRIOT LLC empowers communities to create equitable spaces that celebrate identity, resilience, and growth. By harnessing radical imagination, we help individuals and groups tap into their shared histories while boldly imagining transformative futures.

About

Dr. Michelle D. McClaine

Dr. Michelle McClaine is an interdisciplinary scholar, educator, and curriculum activist whose work highlights the complexities of identity, intersectionality, and educational equity. Guided by her Black Girl Magic Theory and inspired by the life and works of Zora Neale Hurston, her work critically explores how race, gender, and culture shape lived experiences. While her research primarily examines Black girlhood, her extensive experience—spanning over 24 years in the field of education—and the Sankofa Storientation framework render her work applicable across all learning environments, addressing diverse needs to create spaces where everyone can thrive.
